Community guidelines

Safa is kept by neighbors: they add the places, confirm the times and answer each other. These are the adab guidelines, how we treat each other here. They apply to everything you post: reviews, tips, photos, places, times, events, posts and answers.

Each one keeps its number. When something is removed, the notice names the guideline it broke, for example removed: adab guideline 3, and removal reasons are public.

  1. Assume good intent.

Read a neighbor's words the kindest way they can be read, and ask before you accuse. Most wrong times and wrong listings are honest mistakes: correct the fact, not the person.

  2. No takfir.

Never call another Muslim a disbeliever, or say who is in or out of Islam. That judgment is not ours to make here.

  3. No sect-bashing.

Every madhab, school and tradition that prays in this city is welcome. Don't mock or attack any of them, or a masjid for the tradition it keeps. Safa is madhab-neutral and sect-neutral by design.

  4. Disagree with evidence, not insults.

Say what you saw and when, and show it if you can: the certificate on the wall, the timetable by the door. Argue the fact, never the person: no name-calling, no mockery, no piling on.

  5. No medical, legal or financial absolutes.

Share what happened to you; don't tell people what they must do with their health, their case or their money. Point them to a doctor, a lawyer or an adviser who can see their situation.

  6. Rulings go to scholars.

Neighbors share experience here; religious rulings come from qualified scholars. Don't issue rulings, and don't turn a question of halal and haram into a fight. “The butcher showed me his certificate” is experience. “Machine slaughter is haram” is a ruling.

  7. Tell the truth about places.

Post what you saw yourself, as it is. No made-up reviews, no reviewing your own business or a rival's, no paid or traded reviews. If you own or work at a place, say so; an owner's replies are labeled as the owner's, and an owner never names or shames a reviewer.

  8. Keep people's privacy.

Photograph places, not people: no one at prayer in a photo, and no one's face without their say. Don't post anyone's phone number, address or anything else that identifies them, or what someone told you in confidence.

  9. No harassment, threats or hate.

Don't target anyone with abuse, threats, slurs or unwanted attention: a neighbor, a sister, a person of another faith or none, any group of people.

  10. Nothing sexual, violent or unlawful.

No sexual content, no graphic violence, and nothing that breaks the law or helps someone break it.

  11. No spam or selling.

Don't advertise, repeat the same post or post links to sell something. A business speaks through its own place page.

Reporting

Anything someone else posted can be reported: press and hold it, or open its ⋯ menu, and choose Report, then say why. The person you report is never told who reported them.

A report goes first to trusted contributors in your city, and on to Safa's own team when it needs us. We look at every report within a day, and you hear what came of it.

A wrong time or a closed place isn't a report: use Something changed on the place, and the fact goes back to the community to check.

If someone is in danger, call 911 first.

Blocking

You can block anyone from their profile. Blocking works both ways and everywhere: you stop seeing each other's reviews, tips, photos and posts across Safa. Your blocked list is in Settings › Community › Blocked, where you can undo a block at any time.

Removal

Something that breaks a guideline is removed, and its place shows a notice naming the guideline, like removed: adab guideline 3. The person who posted it is told which guideline, and can reply from that notice if they think we got it wrong.

Someone who keeps breaking the guidelines has posting paused while a report is reviewed, and can lose their account. Facts the community has verified, such as an iqamah time, stay when a post or an account goes.
